IPL Extends Services Contract with Landis+Gyr
ATLANTA, GA. – Jan. 30, 2013 – Landis+Gyr and Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) announced the two companies have reached agreement on an extension of their existing network management agreement for the utility’s advanced metering network which has been in place since 1997. As part of the agreement, Landis+Gyr will migrate the network to its advanced two-way Gridstream® solution, allowing IPL to deploy the latest advanced meters and distribution devices for smart grid applications.
“Managing advanced metering networks is one of Landis+Gyr’s core competencies and it makes business and operational sense to continue this relationship,” said Joe Bentley, senior vice president of customer operations at IPL. “At the same time, we look forward to implementing Gridstream and getting even more value from two-way meters and other devices going forward.”
The Gridstream solution is a powerful mesh network that connects advanced meters, distribution devices and home area networks as part of a smart grid. Once the new network is installed, IPL will have a scalable and future-ready platform that will support both currently deployed meters and new meters with two-way communications capabilities and advanced data functions.
“Our long-standing relationship with IPL has given Landis+Gyr important background about the network requirements and information needs of the utility,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, senior vice president of systems and administration at Landis+Gyr. “We look forward to working with IPL on implementing this agreement.”
Based in Indianapolis, IPL provides electric service to more than 470,000 consumers in the city and surrounding central Indiana communities.
