Landis+Gyr Releases Gridstream MDMS 3.2 for Improved Integration and User Experience

ATLANTA – July 16, 2013 – Landis+Gyr, the global leader in smart metering and grid management solutions, today announced availability of Gridstream® Meter Data Management System (MDMS) version 3.2 with improvements centered on fine-tuning integration, performance, ease-of-use, and decision making capabilities.

In addition to functional enhancements, this release aligns Gridstream MDMS with the broader Gridstream smart grid solution suite enabling a greater flow of data from an array of grid sensors to provide enhanced operational control and insight.

The Gridstream MDMS version 3.2 release includes:

  • Straightforward Integration – Version 3.2 introduces SmartData Exchange, an integration layer based on the International Electrotechnical Commission-Common Information Model (IEC-CIM) version 2.0 family of standards. SmartData Exchange maintains the growing library of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) necessary to translate messages between Gridstream MDMS and an array of third-party systems. It is de-coupled from Gridstream MDMS, which enables new APIs for solutions using proprietary programming instructions or other industry standards to be cost-effectively and flexibly added. For example, Gridstream MDMS gets weather data through SmartData Exchange from any weather service feed, and translates into an IEC-CIM message that is used to display and store weather conditions within the Gridstream MDMS that correspond to point-in-time smart meter usage values.  In addition, Gridstream MDMS uses SmartData Exchange to integrate with Gridstream Command Center via Command Center’s MultiSpeak® interface.
  • Enhanced Performance – It incorporates Apache Active MQ to enhance performance with improved message queuing speed. This allows administrators to dynamically create, configure and manage the entire queue library through a single screen within the MDMS user interface and eliminates the need to manage queues from separate middleware systems.
  • Ease of Use – MDMS users gain secure access using their standard utility network login and authentication process. This is possible because Gridstream MDMS integrates into a Security Assertion Markup Language, Single Sign-On environment.
  • Real Time Decisions – SmartData Connect, the customer engagement application extension for Gridstream MDMS, now includes real-time APIs to retrieve and display the most current available data, improving a consumer’s ability to make better decisions based on time of use, energy pricing and weather conditions.

"In today's smart grid deployments, utilities are increasingly integrating the MDMS with other systems and continue to rely upon our solution to efficiently process large amounts of data," said Dan Hokanson, Director of MDM Solutions at Landis+Gyr. "The release of Gridstream MDMS 3.2 builds upon that strong track record that enables millions of data points to progress from information sets to true insights, benefiting many stakeholders within the utility.
